I Am Legend is a sci-fi/Fantasy/Action/Adventure/Drama. It is rated PG-13 and runs an hour and 40 minutes. The plot of the movie is that years after a virus that was thought to be a cure for cancer has infected the human population and altered their DNA to turn them into raging monster like creatures and Colonel Robert Neville, played by Will Smith, seems to be the only normal human left.
Will Smith manages to carry the whole movie through, exhibiting his incredible talent as an actor. Will Smith does many of the scenes solo or with his dog, Sam. You watch the two of them do daily routines like hunt for food and supplies. Robert Neville has no one to talk to and the only glimpse you get of Neville's family and other people in the movie is in Neville's flashbacks to the night when New York was cut off from the world. Neville persistently works on finding a cure to the virus. Robert Neville seems to be alone but is he really?
It is action packed and gets your heart racing at moments. Will Smith has you sympathizing with Neville and at times even has you at the brink of tears. Sam may be a dog but she has you rooting for her and Neville to make it all the way through. You fall in love with Sam. The only thing I found off about the movie is that if you read the book you would instantly see the differences. The plot has their similarities but you can see the artistic differences in the monsters and the end. The background was very visually stimulating. The colors were bright and you could see the detail the put into creating the city. The soundtrack was very chill and mellow with many Bob Marley songs inserted. It kept the vibe of the movie upbeat even though at times you felt like everything was over. Overall the movie was very enjoyable and recommended for an older audience. Some scenes might be too violent for younger viewers. I'm looking forward to the DVD in hopes that they will include deleted scenes.
